Explore the Jurassic Coast
Cross over the Chain Ferry at Sandbanks and you enter a totally different landscape of the Purbecks and the wild Jurassic Coast. Between Swanage and Lyme Regis are miles of stunning cliff-side roads to drive along, many bays to explore, not to mention Weymouth and Portland along the way.
Swanage to Lulworth
Take the Chain Ferry crossing to Swanage and enjoy some time walking around the headland or step back in time and take a steam train to Corfe Castle. Afterwards drive along to Durlston Country Park to enjoy the spectacular cliff-side scenery there, before taking the B3069 west and dropping down to Kimmeridge Bay for a picnic lunch.
Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring Lulworth Cove, or perhaps enjoy a tour of Lulworth Castle.
Lyme Regis to Weymouth
Drive straight to Lyme Regis on the A35 and enjoy a coffee in this delightful seaside town. Sticking to the coastal roads, work your way eastwards to West Bay at Bridport. Take the B3157 and travel along the coast to Chesil Beach and Portland Bill, finishing the day in Weymouth before heading home.
The National Trust Coastal Walks along this route are amongst the best you can find in England. So it is well worth you packing your hiking boots in the boot.
